What type of cuisine does Jagabans LA serve?
Jagabans LA is a Nigerian-owned fine dining restaurant specializing in authentic and contemporary Nigerian cuisine. Our menu celebrates the rich culinary traditions of Nigeria — from the bold stews of the Southwest to the aromatic spices of the North — elevated with fresh California ingredients and modern plating techniques.
What are some signature dishes on your menu?
Our menu features beloved Nigerian staples reimagined for the fine dining experience, including:
  • Egusi Soup — ground melon seed stew with leafy greens and assorted proteins
  • Suya Platter — West African spiced skewered meats with yaji and fresh garnish
  • Jollof Rice — our celebrated smoky party-style Jollof, served tableside
  • Pepper Soup — fragrant spiced broth with your choice of protein
  • Pounded Yam & Efo Riro — silky pounded yam with bitter leaf soup
  • Asun — spicy peppered goat meat, a Jagabans specialty
Seasonal and rotating specials are always available.
Does your menu change seasonally?
Yes! While our core Nigerian classics remain on the menu year-round, we introduce seasonal specials and rotating dishes that highlight fresh California produce and ingredients. Follow us on social media or check our website for the latest menu updates.
Do you have a drinks menu or offer Nigerian beverages?
We offer a curated drinks menu that includes Nigerian traditional beverages such as zobo (hibiscus drink), chapman, and palm wine alongside a thoughtfully selected wine list, cocktails, craft beers, and non-alcoholic options. Our bar program features cocktails inspired by West African flavors and botanicals.
Can I see the menu before visiting?
Absolutely! Our current menu is available on our website and app. Please note that menu items may vary based on seasonal availability, and daily specials are announced on the day of service. If you have questions about a specific dish, our team is happy to help before your visit.
Are your recipes authentic Nigerian, or are they fusion?
We take great pride in serving authentically rooted Nigerian cuisine. Our recipes are inspired by traditional methods and ingredients passed down through generations. Some dishes receive a contemporary presentation or incorporate fresh local California ingredients, but the soul and flavor profiles remain deeply Nigerian. Our chefs bring personal heritage and culinary training to every plate.

We encourage you to settle in and enjoy the experience — our team is attentive but never rushed. Please let us know if you have a time constraint and we'll do our best to accommodate you.
Do you offer a tasting menu or prix-fixe experience?
Yes! We periodically offer a chef's tasting menu — a curated multi-course journey through Nigeria's regional cuisines, paired with beverages. This experience is available on select evenings and must be pre-arranged when booking. Contact us or check our website for current tasting menu availability.

Dietary & Allergen Information

Do you cater to vegetarian or vegan guests?
Yes! We offer vegetarian and vegan-friendly options on our menu. Nigerian cuisine naturally features a variety of plant-based ingredients — from hearty bean dishes to vegetable soups with palm oil. Our kitchen team can also adapt certain dishes upon request. Please inform your server of your dietary preference when ordering.
How do you handle food allergies?
Your safety is our priority. Please inform us of any food allergies or intolerances at the time of booking and again when seated — our servers will communicate with the kitchen directly. While we take every precaution, please be aware that our kitchen is not entirely allergen-free, as various ingredients are used in close proximity.
  • Common allergens in Nigerian cuisine: tree nuts (groundnuts/peanuts), shellfish, gluten (from wheat thickeners), dairy
  • We clearly label major allergens on our menu
Are gluten-free options available?
Several of our Nigerian dishes are naturally gluten-free, as traditional West African cuisine relies on yam, plantain, rice, and corn-based staples rather than wheat. Our team can identify gluten-free items and flag any hidden gluten sources. Please inform us when booking or upon arrival.
How spicy is the food? Can spice levels be adjusted?
Nigerian cuisine features robust, bold flavors — including the use of Scotch bonnets, dried chili peppers, and aromatic spices. Many dishes can be adjusted for spice level upon request, from mild to very spicy. Our servers are happy to guide you based on your tolerance, and we'll always be honest about dishes that are difficult to de-spice due to their preparation method.
